The GIF 2012 Performers!

Here are some words to let you know who is performing this weekend at the Gatlinburg Improv Fest!

6 Guitars - Chase Padgett

Chase Padgett (actor, writer, comedian, musician) has been
professionally performing for the past decade. He received his initial
improv training at the SAK Comedy Lab in Orlando, FL where Wayne Brady
started performing. He then learned from some of the improv greats at
the world famous iO Theatre in Chicago, IL. After two years of
successful sketch shows at the Orlando Fringe Theatre Festival he
struck out on his own in 2010 with a solo show called '6 Guitars.' In
it he plays 6 different guitar players, each with their own voice,
style and look on life. At it's premiere the festival awarded him Best
Male Performer, Best Solo Show, Best Original Play, Best Musician,
Best in Venue and Producer of the Year. Over the course of 2011 he
took his show across North America and into Canada at the Edmonton
Fringe Festival, North America's largest theatre festival. It sold out
every performance, including 2 holdovers in a 300 seat house. The
Edmonton Sun said, "The hour-long play will leave you doing two
things: laughing until you cry, and lifting your jaw to its proper
position... His ability to switch from character to another is
magician-like," and called it "...nothing short a storytelling
masterpiece." He just recently finished a limited engagement Off
Broadway at the Roy Arias Studios.

Shenanigans

Shenanigans is a Lee University improv group from Cleveland, TN performing 1/2 short form and 1/2 long form. Check out their facebook fan page here: Shenanifans!

Einstein Simplified

Knoxville, Tennnessee's longest running comedy improvisational troupe. Entertaining Knoxville since August of 1994, we perform at Side Splitters every Tuesday night and at First Night Knoxville every New Year's Eve. We specialize in short form improv and guarantee at least 3 hours of uproarious laughter in every hour and a half show.

Reasonably Priced Babies

The Reasonably Priced Babies are an Asheville area improv troupe. They consist of Tom Chalmers, Mondy Carter, Karen Stobbe and Josh Batenhorst. Despite the misleading moniker, they are not actual babies, though their performances could be considered "immature at times" and always reasonably priced. A little note about the crew:

Tom Chalmers was voted “Best Loved Comedian” in the 2010 readers’ poll and is best known locally for his recurring role as “Crumpet” in Asheville Community Theatre’s THE SANTALAND DIARIES.He was also artistic director of NYC’s GOTHAM CITY IMPROV.Mondy Carter performed most recently in Asheville at the Magnetic Theatre in WHEN JEKYLL MET HYDE and the BERNSTEIN FAMILY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR.For years, Mondy, worked in Milwaukee with the improv group THE DEAD ALE WIVES.Josh Batenhorst is a local theatre artist and arts educator. His work includes being the lead theatre arts teacher at ArtSpace Charter School, director of Asheville Community Theatre’s SANTALAND DIARIES and NOISES OFF, and he can be heard on Thursdays on 880 AM THE REVOLUTION as “Captain Josh,” providing audiences with a weekly performing arts round-up.After performing and teaching improv for 20 years. Karen Stobbe has focused her work toward using improvisation and creativity to train in healthcare; with an emphasis toward Alzheimer's disease. She has written a book and a training DVD and is a popular speaker around the country.
as
The group blends short and long form improv into a night of unpredictable fun. Bring a diaper or at least wear absorbent pants.

Obv-prov

We are a group of six improvisers that hail from Cleveland, TN, the jewel of Central Bradley County.  Led by professor of theatre at Lee University, Dan Buck, whose research interests include Improv Pedagogy and who has performed with Sak Comedy Lab of Orlando, FL. He also founded the college improv teams of Taylor University and Gordon College. The rest of the team is a rag-tag group of Lee University grads and former members of the student team Shenanigans.

Obv-prov is a show designed for the Gatlinburg festival that begins with a wild brainstorming session of movie pitches and then leads to a long form jam that consistently culminates in a transcendent narrative crescendo which has added positive energy to the universe and saved a few whales, indirectly.

Suspenders of Disbelief

Coming up on it's 36th season of shows in Gatlinburg the cast of Sweet Fanny Adams is proud to present their very first improv comedy show, the Suspenders of Disbelief! Watch as they toss their scripts to the wind willy-nilly and are forced by their somewhat evil tutor to rely on their whip- crack comedy smarts! There was also some talk of them being slathered in butter. That last bit may be unrelated. Come and see!

getting hammered and nailed down!

we've been busy getting all the pieces in place and are starting to nail down specific show times and dates.

it's a little like 8th grade shop class so far, but all fingers are accounted for and the few nails we needed to pull are coming out pretty easily.

"six guitars"' performer chase padgett has a new show guitar on the way and was only robbed one more time last week so things are looking up!

we lost our previous hotel deal but are diligently working on a new one for our performers and audiences.

also, we'll only be accepting performing group applications through january 25th! apply now if you're still interested in performing! $35 app fee required.

and here's a photo of the great victorian amusement company performing on stage at the sweet fanny adams theatre so as to help you imagine yourself here!

adaptive efficiency

there are times when you know you should just take a couple days and then be ready to run the race on monday. yesterday, i found out our friend chase padgett's home in florida was burglarized. among many other things they stole was the guitar he uses to perform his show, "6 Guitars". so i better get some rest and shake this latest cold because, come monday, i'll be busy...
