"Finding the Game." - what to do after you have set up the who, what and where
Improv comedy is about establishing patterns, latching on to the "hook" of the scene then repeating and exaggerating it to humorous results. Learn how to recognize the game that is at play in your scene, often established in just the first few lines, and then maximize its comedic potential. Review some of the classic scene dynamics such as one upmanship, status switch, mistaken identity, and many more. $10
Tom Chalmers has studied with Second City, The Groundlings, Upright Citizens Brigade, and improv guru Del Close. He was a founding member of Columbia University's Six Milks, the Artistic Director of NYC's Groundlings East / Gotham City Improv, and currently teaches the improv program at The New York Studio of Stage & Screen in Asheville. His former students have gone on to write for Saturday Night Live, voice characters for Family Guy and SpongeBob SquarePants, and appear in Academy Award winning films such as The Artist and The Descendants.
